The following is required to play 3D streaming video from the Netflix service:

  • The Internet Service Provider (ISP) must have access to the Netflix Open Connect Content Delivery Network.
  • Bandwidth between 6-12 Mbps is needed to play the video smoothly and prevent rebuffering.
  • To stream 3D video from a Blu-ray Disc player or steaming media player with a Netflix app, the TV must support 3D through an HDMI connection.
  • The device you are using to stream the 3D video must have a 3D-enabled Netflix app installed.

Can we get 3D Blu-ray discs as part of Netflix disk-by-mail? How can we tell which movies have 3D, the Netflix website doesn’t seem to give us a clue. Why isn’t “3D’ listed as a feature?

When will Netflix offer 3D movies people will actually watch? Gravity, Edge of Tomorrow, Guardians of the Galaxy, etc?

    • Steve Sander says

I’m not sure if you can rent actual DVDs but if you have a Smart 3D TV you can set up your Netflix directly through your TV. Netflix somehow knows that your TV is 3D capable and then offers them via streaming.

joy, I have found that I can only stream 3D content thru my playstation 3, when I bring up Netflix on my 3D bluray player it doesn’t even show any 3D content (same on my laptop when I pull up Netflix, no 3D content comes up) but with the playstation brings up its own group of 3D movies, I know this must sound weird as I find it strange myself, I have the same trouble on as I have purchased 3D movies (usually the ones that come on on vudu a few weeks before bluray) and I can only stream those in 3D from my playstation 3 as well, I cant stream vudu 3D content thru my 3D bluray players, seems like all the gaming systems will stream Netflix and vudu 3D content as where neither one of my 3D bluray players will. doesn’t make any sense.

3d TV flopped because the 2d to 3d converter was total trash. I understand there are vastly superior converters today, like Black Magic, but they cost $4,000! Goodbye 3d!
