Five months ago, Netflix announced they had planned to sign a Marco Polo series from the Starz Network after Starz had released the rights to produce the show.
Netflix has moved forward and officially announced they are currently working on the new original series based on the life of the 13th century explorer to be released this year.
Details are still rather sparse at the moment, but Empire Magazine is reporting that the main force pushing the TV show are executive producer and creator John Fusco (Young Guns and Hidalgo); directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki) and executive producer and director Dan Minahan (Game Of Thrones, True Blood, The Good Wife, Homeland).
Based mostly on historical facts, Marco Polo will be focused on the explorer’s earlier years during his time in the court of Kublai Khan.
We’re certainly excited as the team behind the show have a great track record thus far. More details to follow.
